How to Structure Your Book - Part 3 - Titles

Part 3. Titles

As you group your ideas together you will be able to start creating working chapter titles. My chapter titles changed 3 times. And then reverted back to my 2nd idea. (I feel this is a very valuable example of why it is good to work with a publisher or 3rd party because they will challenge you and help you see better ways to lay out your work. Or a way to structure it that you might have dismissed.) Originally for my book, we had short titles and they changed to represent what we felt someone would "Google" to find solutions. This has been very powerful because it enables people to read the book in a way that suits them. Remember not all people will wish to read cover to cover, some will want a quick easy fix to a solution and then to revisit the content at a later date when they have more time.

Will your book enable this to happen easily and your reader to find what they are looking for?

How will you ensure that this can happen?

(I feel this is a very valuable example of why it is good to work with a publisher or a 3rd party because they will challenge you and help you see better ways to lay out your work. You can use utilise my mastermind group to help you do any aspect of this course, just be mindful that if you look to get support from family and friends they may not want to be critical of you or may be over critical and cause you to procrastinate and not keep going with your book.

I personally feel happy to discuss my book ideas with clients and the Insiders because I know they will be honest with me. Having been through the process 5 times (now writing my 6th book) I know my style of working, structuring and publishing books works for me. If you feel you need more email me because I know some amazing ghost writers, writing schools and specialists in publishing that can help you.

I even have fans who email me to ask "When is the next book coming out?" Guess what I say to them? "Well what would you like?"

So think who in your field of friends and professional network could you turn to so you know you are creating something people will want to know more about (remember for a later lesson on selling your book, it's a good idea to start a data base for people to sign up to that say "That sounds amazing, how can I learn more?"

Originally for my book, we had short titles and they changed to represent what we felt someone would “Google” to find solutions. This has been very powerful because it enables people to read the book in a way that suits them. Remember not all people will wish to read cover to cover non fiction books, some will want a quick easy fix to a solution and then to revisit the content at a later date when they have more time.

Will your book enable this to happen easily and your reader to find what they are looking for?

Do your chapters enable easy reading or confuse your readers?

ACTION; Create a list of working chapters.

This is imperative because sometimes as we will see in a later lesson you really have no inclination to write. Clear chapters that have grouped key words associated to them, means you can choose a chapter that inspires you instead of what is next. Jumping around I found to be a great way to keep me motivated and productive. Editing is a bore to me. So I would edit with my editor one chapter and write one chapter at any one time. That way I was balancing an element of writing that I didn't enjoy with an element of writing I loved.
